Instructional Video Danny made before the Hot Licks Series. Excerpt from VHS. Put out by Pro Video. Believed to be out of print.

Please note this is for information only and to share with Gatton fans as myself. I make no money from this, no ads etc..If it was available I would not have posted it. Enjoy!!

Here is how I got the Video,

Somewhere around 1992 I was attending a lot of Danny Gatton Gigs. More so than through the years. I am from around the Washington D.C. area where you would say was Danny's home base.

I heard about the this Video and searched high and low for it, to no avail. It was 'already' out of print.

Finally, I went up to Danny after one of his gigs and explained I had been looking everywhere for it.

He said he had a few left in his trunk and they were probably the last ones. He said he would drop them off at a local Vintage Guitar store and I could pick one up there for $30-$35 (as I recall).

Well, Danny did his part and when I went in to pick it up I mentioned Danny was going to drop one off for me, and the price.

He said, yes he dropped it off, but said the price was $50 because he could get that for it elsewhere. Miffed, I went ahead and gave him the $50 because I knew this would probably be my last chance to get a new one.

I never returned to the store because I felt like he gouged me.

BTW, the same company put out 2 other videos of local heros. One was Tom Principato, and the other was Jim Thackery. Both still playing.

Sorry, I had the TAB that came with the video but I haven't seen it in years.

Enjoy!

  • You can sitt for hours listening to guitar shredders playing hi-gain solos at a billion notes per second - and then switch to some Danny Gatton video and he blows them all away just by the sheer COOLNESS of his playing!

  • @ChyronIsChillin Danny was an amazing session cat and all around amazing artist... He was the humbler for a simple reason... very few of his piers could touch him... Joe B is an amazing guitarist... He is no Danny Gatton... I am not saying that to be argumentative or a dick... the truth is that Joe realizes Danny will be the yardstick by which many guitarist will be measured for many years... get a a copy of 88 Elmira St.... it will open your eyes,,

  • @JackSquat1960 it's supposed to drive your imagination

  • @toomanygittars Well said, I've been saying the same for ever...it's quality and feeling rather than quantity and speed!!

  • Danny picked the guitar all day, then went in the garage and blew his brains away... doo-da...

    "Welcome to America".

  • This is when I think Danny was at his best, just hanging out informally and playing off the top of his head. Amazing! His improvizations sound better than most composed songs!

  • @skrimpshidy "Greasiest dude alive"?-I wish that were true.

  • Great to hear Danny being so simplistic about something he made so intricate and complicated that it transcends mere mortal achievement. Th Evil Knievel of the tele-titans!!

  • what a bunch of useless info

  • @tythefrog dial tone is also in the key of "A"

  • Not only is this the greasiest dude alive, not only can he rip the Tele apart, That's not enough. No! His watch has to do the perfect star sparkle on top of it all.
