TOUR #1: EDUCATION. Salim, and his partners in crime, contribute another self-referential video about and formed by YouTube videos about and formed by popular culture, where critique is not popular. Like all the videos in this tour, it is "bad," at least by the standards of film school. YouTube demands and creates new video standards based upon brevity, consolidation, humor, self-reference, and popular opinion. Join the tour! I think that your group should have chose something other than the label of "black people" for the video's tags. It's offensive to think that when people search YouTube for "black people", they are going to find a video that further reinforces the negative depictions seen in the selected clips.
I'm sure you have a lot of different videos but I want to just make sure that you include them because I feel like the use of these videos are further sterotyping your point. I know there are positive representaions out there and want to see them in good use!
This is really interesting. It makes me upset that there are so many views of those videos. I would like to ask though, in your research have you found any positive representations?
I am a big fan of your topic. Were you able to find any positive representations? If so, how do they differ in popularity. I am looking forward to your final project for your conclusions.
The videos you found were interesting, especially the news clips which are crazy. I'm glad you included the Unforgiveable videos too, although I wouldn't consider that a real video blog, but more an acceptibility of racial humor, where an obvious educated black man plays the role of a stereotyped 'angry young black man.' So I think you could put that into a section about humor at the 'expense' of blacks, as opposed to a real video blog talking head video
It looks like you've done some interesting research and made some good insights into racial issues on YouTube. I am interested to see your final conclusions and whether or not they differ from what I initially expected from YouTube.
