hmm, not liking this one bit. One of the selling points of the GTI was the nice touch screen interface of the 2010 models, this cheapens the feel of the GTI significantly. Taking the chance to even purchase a VW product is a huge risk in peoples mind, its stuff like the previous interface that got people to take a chance. I was considering leasing (insane to actually buy) a GTI until I found out about this change.

@warphace Again, this is only the base model, if you go for GTI with sunroof or higher - you will get the Premium 8 with touchscreen.

This sucks compared to what was given in the 2010 model! This is truely disappointing...

@Chryz707 You have to realize that this is really a replacement to the low end sound system that was used in base models for golf, Jetta and Tiguan, and it is actually a significant upgrade. The only downgrade is that this is the first time they are putting a low end system in a GTI, but you still can get the Premium 8 touchscreen if you go for GTI with sunroof.

@micosilver - very helpful video and thank you for sharing! This is a bit concern for me and I didn't notice the difference between the base, sunroof, navi, autobahn package. What is the model number of the Premium that comes with the sunroof? thanks again!!! you rock!

@warphace plus they are all interchangeable anyway - it's a vokswagen - notice the border of the unit - it's the same for the touchscreen rns 510 or the smaller screen model - they all fit in the same hole...

I have this in my 2010 Passat.

Is it a step backwards? No- it's about 21 steps backwards. Like something from the 1980's. Not sure how or why VW even released such a design.

Looks like they're competing with themselves far too much (i.e. Audi) whilst the real competition is already ahead. A bit like a cat chasing its own tail.
