@paranormal35 couplant is going to mask any indications open to the surface. I suppose you could thoroughly clean the part before you do the UT but why do more work than what is necessary. Besides, it is pointless to set up the UT if you find rejectable surface discontinuities.

Then why you don't just do a TOFD Inspection? You could avoid the surface inspection with MT using creeping probes. :°)

hahaha.... no need m p i, also can, because perform the mix tofd and phase array already enough to find the indication.. am i true? .. just learn it..hehe

Hi, You don't wire brush twice mate, But you can't mpi over couplant either, Mpi first, Then couplant remains unaffected, As does the UT ! p.s, You shouldn't be wire brushing anyway, That's not your job, It should be initially prepped to your spec by the grinding polishing crew, Over here we don't get two wages into the bank, You should be if you're doing the grinder's job.

neah, we don't do wire brush ourselves! its all been done by the production crew prior to the inspection! besides, couplant used is just water, it'll dry after few minutes under the sun, we'll just find it much more convenient to perform MT after PA UT due to such circumstances.

@paranormal35
You should ALWAYS do MT before UT mate.

MT will be perform after PA UT, we wouldn't want to do pre-inspection cleaning(wire brush) twice do we?
