@EXPOSEtheHYPOCRITES Trying to label Monae's music is like using a blunt chisel to carve calligraphy into marble. However do not dissasociate her from her roots which lie in soul blues funk and Jazz. There is a white western tendency to try and claim anything cultured as its own and we need to desist. Her touchstone is African American music making her progressive soul much in the traditino of Stevie Wonder or Laura Nyro. She is not from the genesis gentle giant school at all
