Explosive Detection
Explosive Detection
Consummate K-9 offers more than our competitors in explosive detection dogs. Here are the benefits you, the Explosives K-9 handler, will get with our ED Dogs.
We use Belgian Malinois breeding stock here at our facility. We breed, whelp, raise, housebreak, crate train, and socialize your pup from day one until the time of purchase.
Your pup will be exposed to very small quantity odors at 12 weeks of age. Nothing but positive reinforcement is used to teach them to hunt, pinpoint and passively indicate to the location of explosives both on and off leash. Also, training logs are kept on all pups so you, the handler, can see how the dog progressed. The logs consist of the substance used, weight, date, set time, find time, location, type of hide; school bus, tractor trailer, buildings, luggage, aircraft, and so on. As your dog matures we expose it to various environmental stimuli that will be encountered in the real world; while continuing to train on the various odors.
Your dog will be obedience trained for complete off leash control under heavy distraction. All the dogs have house manners and spend time living with us and our other trainers indoors and are not just kennel dogs that we sit on. Your dog will also be spayed or neutered. We generally use females for our detection dogs.
Our dogs are trained to indicate on:
RDX (cyclonite/T4), C-4, TNT, Sheet Explosive C-2, Dynamite, Cast Booster, Black Powder, Ammonium Nitrate, Safety Fuse, Nitromethane, Emulsion, HMX, Water Gel (slurry), Detcord, Comp-B (60%RDX, 40%TNT) and a number of other compositions.
We take great pride in producing a high caliber dog that you can have live with your family, children, and other pets. We like to call them light-switch dogs. Simply meaning, that when it is time to work or train it is just that and their focus will be devoted to the task at hand, indicating the presence of explosive materials with precision and accuracy. At the end of a work day or long night the dog will love nothing more than to snuggle on the couch, be content in a crate or quiet in a kennel.
