I was at Worlds End which is along the weir river across from the Hingham and Hull Line. It's $5 per person to get in.

I was fishing the outgoing tide. I started off using a 6 foor rod with a silver pencil popper and a teaser fly, and then after a while started using a second rod, rigged up with a 2 ounce weight and a 5/0 hook with clams. It started to thunder and lightning after an hour so I left early.

  • one way 2 make the pencil popper work better is to hold the butt of the rod between your legs and as you reel in, whip the rod like hell. this makes the popper zig zag and splash which gets fishes' atention. ive caught many a striper doin it that way. tight lines

  • Thanks for the tip!

  • if it was a striper you didnt miss em. he didnt even bite. your 2oz. probably wasnt holding and rolled. and next time try letting em take it before you pick up the rod and start reeling. stripers are too smart and sensitive for that.

  • Yeah.. to agree with what DEMITRIpa said, a surf rod is the best to work a pencil popper. But all u need is a rod with a long butt and a good amount of action in the tip. you just put it between your legs and whip it fast. I works amazing once you get it down... You should try swim baits... they have been working good this year

  • no prob
