how much of a delay does APCO-25 have Vs Analog?

the police and fire dispatcher simlucast a fire dispatch on PD and on the Fire CH..the PD CH is P25 and Fire is analog. you get to see how much of a delay is actually there

xxradioguyxx what dept. is that paging i like the wake up tone as that's what my grandfathers fire company use to have, is this around Jersey. The FD i'm talking about is Midland Park, NJ and Wyckoff.  Just wondering if you could get the regular tones of it the paging or an pager going on it.

I know that when my local police in Michigan moved to APCO-25 the officers at first had a hard time realizing that there would be a delay if they were around another radio and were talking on one, and not the feedback everyone was so used to before.

It is just the latency of the P25 system. Its not that much. The maximum latency a P25 system can have is actually part of the standard. Its really not that much.

The dalay on 'conventional'  P25 is not too bad. The delay on P25 trunk is another matter altogether. Also, do'nt think for one moment that P25 phase 2 (TDMA) is going to fix all the problems associated with digital voice.

The reason for the delay is due to the process of encoding and decoding of the digital signals. There are usaually always some kind of trade off. Digital kicks analog butt in fringe areas. Even in noisy enviroments, it out performs analog except for Pass and SCBA alarm. But AMBE+2 will change all of that. Digital just keeps getting better and better.

Have you seen a learning curve and resistance with the new equipment and folks learning it? I know I did in 2001! Where are you located? I live in Rochester, NY where the police are APCO-25 using old frequencies, but am from Grosse Pointe, Michigan originally.
