Video at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel Feb 18, 2007

The nostalgic Pink Palace (Royal Hawaiian Hotel) combines both comfort and beauty with a vintage appeal and unbeatable beach front. You can relax by watching surfers, sailors, and sunbathers bask in the sun. The year-round summer with cool tropical breezes and breathtaking views of Diamond Head, phenomenal sunsets, fantastic blue skies and moonlight nights give Waikiki and the Mai Tai Bar a charm of its own.

Pink Mai Tai Recipe from the Mai Tai Bar at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel
This is a popular variation of the traditional Mai Tai recipe from the "Mai Tai" Bar at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki. The original Mai Tai was created by Victor J. Bergeron in 1944 and brought to Hawaii in 1953 at the Royal Hawaiian, Moana and Surfrider Hotels.

INGREDIENTS:
1 oz. Dark Rum
1 oz Light rum
1 oz Orange Curacao
3 oz Orange Juice
1/2 oz Lime Juice
Dash Orgeat
Dash Simple Syrup
Dash Grenadine

PREPARATION:
Combine all of the ingredients in the order listed in a Highball style glass over shaved ice. Stir with a swizzle stick. Garnish with a slice of pineapple and a cherry.

  • I park my sand mat and towel on the beach right in front of that Pink Palace every day while I'm there. I just got back two days ago and I'm looking forward to my next visit. That was the second hotel built in Waikiki back in 1928. I love the gardens on the back side of that place, so nice!!

  • I've been there in February '09, it was fantastic there. They were still doing renovations but the service was still excellent and the hotel was still its beautiful pink color! 5/5

  • How cool is that? I lived on Oahu in '68 & '69 and I have taken my family to stay at the Royal Hawaiian several times in the past few years. My daughter is getting married at the Royal Hawaiian in March '09. This video captures the best of many great memories. Mahalo!
