Our team had a little over three weeks to design, develop, and build an interactive game to be showcased during a public festival.
Requirements & Limitations:
-Be suitable for between one and three users/players
-Have at least one moving/moveable part
-Use multiple materials and manufacturing techniques
-Have most parts made "in-house"
-Fit within a 1.5 ft. x 1.5 ft. x 1.5 ft. cube
Metrics for Evaluation:
-Creativity/novelty - the more creative and unique, the better!
-Use of materials and methods - integrate all the tools available
-Craftsmanship - concentration on the fit, finish, and build quality
-Documentation - create compelling supporting materials
-Overall toy/game experience - make the whole package work together
The basic premise behind this game was to bring the classic game of Battleship into the new millennium. To do so, the game board was turned vertically. Held in place by carefully designed magnetic pegs, ships of different sizes are placed on one facade of the vertical board. Then, using a three degree-of-freedom cannon, steel balls are physically shot towards the board. Upon hitting their targets (one of the ships), the balls are locked into place on this vertical board, creating a cool effect. This was made possible by their magnetic attraction to the ships' pegs.
Very cool idea. Did you guys 3D Print the ships?
