Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) is defined by the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual as "...a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood."
Antisocial personality disorder is sometimes referred to as psychopathy or sociopathy. However, these two are not the same. Rather, psychopathy and sociopathy are generally considered subsets of ASPD. Some researchers believe that ASPD and psychopathy may be separate conditions altogether.
@Redflowers9 Yeah, that's the bad thing I won't lie I selfish side but, I don't think I could deal with sociopaths. I know its not their fault but, the shit they do and say pisses me off like it would anybody else. Well, yeah I hear you and that's what they view as an object. I see a lot of ASPD in my old buddy too. It's like he's on a mission or something to be the best at everything without caring how he did it.

@Gasparro18 Christ... it's sort of become a hobby of mine to understand psychopaths. These are great links: /watch?v=qm1S_n0V5kk, /watch?v=u88lYs4FMTY, Jon Ronson: How to spot a psychopath - book .
I think egoism is a great way to look at it; we're all selfish but most of us gain happiness from benefitting others.
You know when you feel a little low? My grandmother looks at you as if she's genuinely interested as to why; not typical old lady. Clue: imagine being an object when talking to one.

@Redflowers9 I understand how you feel. I'm not a psychatrist but, how my mom acts towards certain things my gives off the feel of a sociopath. From the stories my dad has told me in her past (my dad's not lying I have more than him to back me up) just let you understand what she's likeShe's basically made my dad's life a living hell.

@MrHoover77 I'm taking psychology right now and I actually found out I'm pretty good at it.But, anyways a sociopath is someone who experiences no guilt or remorse, their reckless, and they put their lives and others in danger. They often get into trouble and go to jail.

It tends to get jumbled up with Narcissists and Psychopaths. A sociopath could be one of those other categories also but they can also be pretty productive law-abiding people who just don't have the capacity to feel for others the way most do. I guess it's like all people who become suicidal have depression but not all people with depression commit suicide. To note a sociopath would never commit suicide they can't really experience major depression.

@MsColdCanada That's cool. I took some psychology courses in college. Passed them all with "A" averages. However, my instructors and professors couldn't give me a precise definition or even remotely close about a sociopath. I think it's too broad of a word/subject. I think it's too complicated to explain logically. What you mentioned below in that scenario is basically a sign or symptom. Just one of many. It is one I have already heard. If someone falls, you laugh, yeah I've heard that already.

@MrHoover77 My answer to branby might help you out. If not I'll try to explain in more detail.

@branby1994 The key to knowing if you may be or not is if you are able to experience empathy. If a person you don't know were to fall down a set of stairs in front of you and hurt themselves, do you care, or are you more likely thinking it was lucky they didn't run into you when they fell? If you can empathize with some people then you probably aren't a sociopath. If you don't feel concerned about others and you think people are usually "faking concern" then you probably are.

@Thrashvel Main thing... I just want the answer to sociopaths!!! The whole 9 yards. I don't know everything. I've been reading and reading.. I just can't come up with anything legit. Everyone acts and behaves a different way.
Same back to ya... I didn't mean to be so belligerent.

@MrHoover77 I'm sorry if I insulted your intelligence, there was a misunderstanding and I was wrong.
