Larry King 11-23-10, This is one of many reasons why Dolly Parton is a gay icon. Her acceptance of the gay community has been demonstrated many times. Oprah aired a tribute show to Dolly, where Melissa etheridge and Shania Twain were guests. When asked about gay marriage, Dolly said, "Sure I support gay marriage. Why shouldn't they have to suffer just like the rest of us?" Shania also jokingly accused Melissa of flirting with Dolly. Oprah and Dolly later talked about religion, where Dolly showed an area on her bus for daily prayers. To me, both Dolly and Oprah are true Christians, using their religion for love rather than judgment and hate. Dolly also has a famous story of anonymously going to a gay/drag Dolly Parton lookalike contest -- and losing! And of course, there 's her Oscar-nominated song, Travelin' Thru, for the movie, TransAmerica. The movie is about a transgender woman's journey through life. Because of the subject matter and Dolly's inclusion of "Jesus"and "God" in the lyrics, she received death threats and can no longer sing the song in concerts. Although I'm an atheist, here's my favorite line, "God made me for a reason and nothing is in vain." Dolly was already a legendary songwriter and singer so she chose the project out of conviction, not money. Not only did she write the lyrics, but she performed the song as well. That's why we love her.

Travelin' Thru (from the movie, TransAmerica)

Well I can't tell you where I'm going, I'm not sure of where I've been
But I know I must keep travelin' till my road comes to an end
I'm out here on my journey, trying to make the most of it
I'm a puzzle, I must figure out where all my pieces fit
Like a poor wayfaring stranger that they speak about in song
I'm just a weary pilgrim trying to find what feels like home
Where that is no one can tell me, am I doomed to ever roam
I'm just travelin', travelin', travelin', I'm just travelin' on

Questions I have many, answers but a few
But we're here to learn, the spirit burns, to know the greater truth
We've all been crucified and they nailed Jesus to the tree
And when I'm born again, you're gonna see a change in me

God made me for a reason and nothing is in vain
Redemption comes in many shapes with many kinds of pain
Oh sweet Jesus if you're listening, keep me ever close to you
As I'm stumblin', tumblin', wonderin', as I'm travelin' thru

I'm just travelin', travelin', travelin', I'm just travelin' thru
I'm just travelin', travelin', travelin', I'm just travelin' thru

Oh sometimes the road is rugged, and it's hard to travel on
But holdin' to each other, we don't have to walk alone
When everything is broken, we can mend it if we try
We can make a world of difference, if we want to we can fly

Goodbye little children, goodnight you handsome men
Farewell to all you ladies and to all who knew me when
And I hope I'll see you down the road, you meant more than I knew
As I was travelin', travelin', travelin', travelin', travelin' thru

I'm just travelin', travelin', travelin', I'm just travelin'
Drifting like a floating boat and roaming like the wind
Oh give me some direction lord, let me lean on you
As I'm travelin', travelin', travelin', thru

I'm just travelin', travelin', travelin', I'm just travelin' thru
I'm just travelin', travelin', travelin', I'm just travelin' thru

Like the poor wayfaring stranger that they speak about in song
I'm just a weary pilgrim trying to find my own way home
Oh sweet Jesus if you're out there, keep me ever close to you
As I'm travelin', travelin', travelin', as I'm travelin' thru

  • Martin Luther King Jr wouldn't want 'gay marriage'.

  • @NumberOneCollegeFan

His wife Coretta Scott King supported gay marriage and she carried his legacy, so unless you have proof, I'll extrapolate from her. She said, ""Gay and lesbian people have families, and their families should have legal protection, whether by marriage or civil union. A constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages is a form of gay bashing and it would do nothing at all to protect traditional marriages."

    What's your proof?

  • @NumberOneCollegeFan

"I still hear people say that I should not be talking about the rights of lesbian and gay people. But I hasten to remind them that Martin Luther King Jr. said, ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’ I appeal to everyone who believes in Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream, to make room at the table of brotherhood and sisterhood for lesbian and gay people."

    -- Coretta Scott King

  • @AshMbrs1 wrote "I doubt you studied the Bible whatso ever. You have no facts"

    ---

The Plague, Holocaust, Crusades, Inquisition, and world poverty are not historical facts? Get an education. Duh. Let's see ... I provided biblical QUOTES and actual historical facts, and you provided nothing. Why don't you ask any academician, including theologians, which is more convincing. hahaha

Get an education. And learn to think critically. What a sad sad sad joke. hehehe

    3) "Those who are slaves must consider their masters worthy of all respect, so that no one will speak evil of the name of God and of our teaching. Slaves belonging to Christian masters must not despise them, for they are their brothers." (1 Timothy 6:1-2). So Harriet Tubman and other abolitionists were sinners?

    4) And sexual slavery of young girls is okay! (Exodus 21:7) (Gen 19:5, 19:8). So CONSENSUAL sex among ADULT MEN is wrong but sexual slavery of minors is fine?

  • @NumberOneCollegeFan Look at it scientifically. Homosexuality is found in over 1,500 species; Homophobia is found in only one. Which do you think God will find more unnatural? God didn't make the mistake of making homosexuals. Man made the mistake of rewriting the Bible to twist God's words into hateful scriptures. You're entitled to your opinion and, frankly, neither of us will know until judgement day. My God is one that I know to love me and want me to be happy. THAT'S what the Bible tells ME

  • @LuvDatLaDiDa Twist the word all you want. That's all you're doing. Read Genesis 2:22-24. If you claim to know your religion than there is no denying that man and woman are designed to be together and anything different than that is lust, is immoral, is against God's design, and is therefore a sin.

  • @NumberOneCollegeFan Do not spout passages at me. I know my religion. If you read that thoroughly, it says that the shameful act is giving up the natural for LUST. I cannot speak for lustful homosexuals, but I myself as a MORALLY SOUND HOMOSEXUAL can say that I act on love, not lust.

Homosexuality in itself is not a sin.

Lustful abandonment of the natural, however, is.

  • @LuvDatLaDiDa Homosexuality is absolutely sexual immorality. "For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due." Romans 26-27

Homosexuality is without a doubt immoral, and is a sin.

  • @NumberOneCollegeFan Sorry about the grammatical error at the beginning of the post I just made. I had to shorted what I said because of the character limit and forgot to correct what I'd fixed.

  • @NumberOneCollegeFan The Sodom wasn't destroyed because of the act of consensual homosexual sex, they were destroyed because the people Sodom raped travelers. There is a similar story in the book of Judges, only this time it involved a female. The point of these stories is to describe the sin of sexual immorality--that does not include homosexuality. You would know that if you looked up the biblical definition of 'sexual immorality.' Looks like YOU need to learn how to read the Bible, my friend.

  • @lgbtTV4 Gen 19:5, you misused that verse terribly. The people that desired to have sex with those men were DESTROYED by God. The entire city was destroyed and only Lot and his two daughters survived. 19:8, if you actually understood the context you would realize that Lot was corrupted by his environment and that the Bible does not at all condone Lot's actions. You need to learn how to read the Bible my friend. You also need to learn what the points of each book of the Bible is are.

  • @lgbtTV4 You fail to recognize the context in which different passages of the Bible are written. There is a reason why Jews won't eat pork, but it is completely fine for Christians to eat pork.

  • @lgbtTV4 That is his wife. His wife is not Martin himself. Preventing "gay marriage" is not a threat to justice. Y'all being unable to see each other in hospital and crap like that is. Take your civil unions and quit trying to get marriage. A man and a man or a woman and a woman can NEVER be married.

I have a hard time believing that a pastor with such a strong faith would condone "gay marriage".
