Rappel Tower- Marine Recruit Training

Women recruits with 4th Recruit Training Battalion on Parris Island, South Carolina go through the Rappel Tower training event as part of the 12 week initial training into the United States Marine Corps. Every woman wanting to be a Marine goes through the recruit training at Parris Island.

You only do this once in bootcamp. I wish it were more though. I have gotten a few chances to do it since, but some Marines don't get the chance again.

@GTA4FREAK1149 Yes, it is mandatory. However, drill instructors and other Marine trainers ensure that you are skilled and ready to tackle the rappel tower when the time comes. My wife was more than a little apprehensive when she faced the tower in boot camp, but she loved it by the time all was said and done.

we didn't get to do this becuasl the rappel tower happened to fall on Christmas day 2010 during my cycle. Gas chamber smelled like Christmas as well

@CaptinSuds Yes. THere is a belay person at the bottom. Individuals can brake with hand tension on their lower grip, but if a recruit starts falling the DI on belay will just drop his/her weight on the rope and the Recruit will stop.
