The Rainbow Family Gathering is over and on our way back, to our camper and our dogs (we knew we couldn't handle three dogs WITH an almost 2-year old kid @ Rainbow) where we left them in California, we stopped for a night of tent-camping in the National Forest near Flagstaff, Arizona. Although we had seen many a campfire and kitchen fire at Rainbow, we never actually started one of our own. (It sort of seemed redundant when we were parked within like 50 feet of the Barking Lot fire.) So, instead we ate hot prepared meals at the kitchens and gathered around our community campfire in the Barking Lot where we were parked and pitched our tent.
So, Cooper really enjoyed seeing the building and starting of this fire. He helped gather the wood we were going to burn. He was curious about the refrigerator rack that we propped up on the circle of stones. He grooved on the fact that we actually were going to cook food on this fire. He also got to practice his fire extinguishing techniques on his burning sticks by blowing REALLY hard.
Although he was completely fascinated by the fire, he still respected it as a great source of the "HOT! HOT!" which is not to be touched.
i wish i was there
looks so relaxing...there is nothing that i love better is a quiet night by a campfire
