Cut-throat Razor shave

First wet shave for 2 months. A bit out of practice.
The razor is a Dovo En Vogue 5/8 Full hollow grind:

I got into shaving with an open razor about a year ago I suppose and have really enjoyed the challenge of learning to use it. More than that, I now find I enjoy setting time aside to have a shave - and there's just SOMETHING about using one of these things on your face which is so satisfying, yet so difficult to explain. Those who use an open razor will understand.

got a straight razor in mail the other day. tried it today but had to finish w/reg shaver. Didn't seem to want to cut the shorter hair. Sharp as any kife I ever owned,seemed sharp enough but I don't guess it was. so i'm wondering if I need to strop it a bunch or hone some? also does a strop actually sharpen a blade more?

@assman255 Was it a shave ready razor? Stropping will only align the blade and keep it sharp once it IS sharp. Depending on what you bought and whether it was bought shave ready, I would consider sending it off for honing.

Hi mate just wondering is it hard to learn ? An if I get the same razor is that okay being a total beginner ? An does it only need sharpening every 6 months cheers
