This March, 1996 Global Sportsline segment deals with the dismissal of coach Pat Burns by the Toronto Maple Leafs. GM Cliff Fletcher, interim coach Nick Beverly, and several players are interviewed, followed by comments from Burns himself.
After that, a several minute retrospective of Burns's time in Toronto is presented. It's kind of amazing that he was let go because of two poor months. The Leafs had started out the 95-96 campaign quite well and were still clinging to a playoff spot when Burns was fired, despite only 3 wins in their previous 22 games. For those interested, the music looped behind the look-back is "Welcome To The Pleasuredome" by Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

@leafsblake Even Pat Burns(R.I.P.) revitalizing that franchise couldn't save his coaching job with the Leafs, mostly because expectations got sky high after back-to-back Final 4 appearances and they couldn't live up to them.

He shoulda stayed with the Habs ... I'd be celebrating if the Loafs fired me, the Loafs are the epitome of a lost cause

I remember that slump in 95-96. Pat Burns should had never been fired at the time. The following year they got worse.

We can fire Burns, but we can't fire Wilson.
Fire Wilson.

Bad move firing Pat IMO. Leafs did improve under Beverley to make the playoffs, but wow those were some crappy times being a leaf fan from 1996-97 - 1997-98.
RIP Pat Burns.
