I live in Cocoa Beach and surfed the pier during Irene (and during Katia today) and trust me there is no "reef break" or "outside about 300 yards off shore" and this wasn't a video of the shore pound either.
You must be thinking of some other place. Also this beach break would NEVER handle 35 foot swells

Surfed this break in 1965 an hour after Huricane Betsy, Outside break was hitting 35 feet.Glass with off shore breeze. These videos are of shore break. The reef break can be seen on the outside. about 300 yards off shore. Tubes you could stand full up. If anyone has pictures or knowledge of that day in 1965 please contact me towns6@yahoo.com
