@markoresko OSX is based on NeXTSTEP / Openstep that use code from BSD... So OSX uses BSD code... Solaris is not Linux, BSD is not Solaris, and OSX is not BSD or mkLinux ... and Plan9OS is not MoonOS, but MoonOS is Linux.... HAHAHA :)

There is NO security in Opensolaris stable release.
There is NO source available for security patches inside /support PAYED repository.
So you are NOT secure with Opensolaris UNLESS you use /dev release.. OR you pay to SUn 300BUCKS per installation.
Nad Yes, every other system has free security patches/updates, Even free Solaris10.
Opensoalris is platform that will be Closed in Solaris 11. That will be just one more Closed Source OS...

so what are you trying to say? opensolaris is one of the few true unix desktop OS that is available and viable, uses ZFS and you can put in your resume but Ubuntu is prettier and can be patched like windows HURR DURRR mine is better - if free security patches are your only compelling argument please go back to 4chan.

It is true that almost any unix-like software could be ported to Opensolaris. But there is not much people using Opensolaris to make it happen. With their policy of not allowing people to do security updates on released Opensolaris editions, uless you pay $300, I don`t see how would Sun`s Opensolaris grow rith it`s user base and achieve bigger application porting ratio.
