This year's parade is a special commemoration marking the 90th Anniversary of Veteran's Day (1919-2009).
Hosted by the United War Veterans Council on behalf of the City of New York, the parade is the largest of its kind in the nation, providing an opportunity for New Yorkers and visitors from across our country (and around the world!) to honor those who have preserved our freedoms.
This year's parade theme, "The Blessings of Liberty," is drawn from the preamble to our Constitution. Our goal is to encourage the public to not only support our veterans and military, but to show their appreciation for the good things in their own lives that they owe to those in uniform.
The opening ceremony will start at 10:00 a.m. at Madison Square Park. The parade will begin an hour later. Full details and information about joining the parade or volunteering can be found at the parade's webpage.

The band in white uniforms is Swansboro Marching Pirates from Swansboro High School. Swansboro, North Carolina is just miles from the back gate of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. Behind them in line (to the right in the video) is the Michigan City (Indiana) Soul Steppers, a faith-based group that keeps teens off the streets and out of gangs. They were fantastic, highly-energetic performers. Swansboro stayed in the same hotel as the Soul Steppers and I found them to be a very humble bunch!

Wow! Thanks for posting. The band dressed in white is Swansboro Marching Pirates from Swansboro High School in North Carolina. Swansboro is located very near the back gate of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. The group behind (to the right in the video) is a faith-based group called the Michigan City (Ind.) Soul Steppers and they can rock! They stayed in our hotel and were a very humble bunch. They were inspiring.
