In combination with horizontal trim, this kick is highly useful for photographers and manoeuvring in high-silt or restricted environment as no thrust is vectored down
@dmotiempo i can do helicopter turns in my splits (from atomic aquatics, theyre really heavy so it works fine) and theyre VERY effective. frog kicks... not so much :D
@dmotiempo I frog kick and heli in splits all of the time and can do it just as well as anyone in solid fins..It all comes down to what you're used to diving with.
Good video and technique. I know people say you can't do frog kicks or helicopter turns in splits, but they can be done. It isn't as efficient as in a good pair of jets or slipstreams tho.
cheers, i knew something was wrong trying this with split fins, each side of the fin seemed to be working against the other side, hopeless. . . i'd already considerd buying some scubapro jet fins & your reply just confirmed it. pick them up tomorrow! thanks.
Unfortunately usually not at all. I've tried Apollo Bio-Fins (one of the best split fins). For backward/heli etc. WITHOUT silting up, you will want to try Scubapro Jet Fins (or other copies) or similar. My Force Fin Extra work quite OK though, those are also quite popular with some tech divers.
You can do it in short Force Fins too, but usually not without silting up or loads more practise then with other, more rigid fins.
