This video was directly captured from my newly-acquired Super Famicom Box. It was intended to be used in hotel rooms. Nice black and boxy design, very heavy and also very rare. This system takes special cartridges that contain multiple games along with information for the menu screen.

Super Famicom Box tech info:
-Only SNES/SFC system that fully uses the S-CPU I/O-Port
-otherwise standard SFC hardware with the addition of a superimposed external graphics layer (used for in-game messages)
-two types of cartridges available: regular & option:
The regular cartridge (pss-61, containing Mario Kart, Mario Allstars and Starfox) must be inserted at all times, it also contains the game selection menu.
A couple of different option cartridges containing two additional games each are available.

currently known option carts:
-pss-62: Waialae No Kiseki & Super Mahjong 2
-pss-63: Super Donkey Kong & Tetris 2
-pss-64: Super Donkey Kong & Bomberman 2 (unverified)

  • Nice find, do you know if the NTSC Super Nintendo boxes (?) are for sale somewhere out there too, or even exist physically for that matter? I remember I had my 14th birthday party in a hotel and we were able to "rent" an SNES with preloaded games for an hour or so, not sure where the SNES box was though.

  • I've seen gamecube and n64 controllers hooked up to TV's in hotels before. I wonder if they still have those. The gamecube and n64 are old now so...

  • I wonder how many times that goomba that you spared has died....but really, cool video, it is always fun to see unusual/weird things from video game history.

  • This is so cool! I want one!

  • I've heard those menu sounds before. It had something to do with a pink puffball... and golf courses... and a giant King Dedede robot...
