Martian oceans, intuition tells me, were much like those of Earth: pH close to 8.3 (i.e., between 8 & 9, same as the soil).

This is great news. As our population grows this gives us a place to grow to. Terra-forming Mars is a reasonable goal, and the challenge and adventure of subduing Mars is amazing to imagine. Thanks for the information and the video.

The Phoenix is testing only the minerals in the soil and has no equipment for testing for organic life. Anyway like I said, water is life unto itself!
