@solareclipse365 It was left open. The majority of the evidence points to her son who is the one portrayed as clueless but essentially good nature. The old man was on the girls cell phone giving him a reason to lie. Everything is seen through the characters flawed perspective so you can't say for sure.

This was a great movie... It's very realistic! A mom will do everything just to save her own child. When I watched this movie I can't deny that I'm a mom too!
