  • Tis vastly dependant on the individual speakers you are testing/planning to use.

Do me a favor tho - next time you ask a question -- open your mailbox so I can send you the answer to you directly would ya? instead of having to parcel it out bit by bit here with the limited character count thingy they use on here.

    Enjoy!

  • ((last last info))-- I promise ---- 4 OHM woofers deliver about 3 to 6 db more volume than 8 OHM woofers. Not a problem if you have AMPS with more power than the speaker can handle at 8 OHMs -- but if you are limited -- the 4 OHM woofer will be just a tad more efficent at delivering sound DB's.(generally speaking -- for there is indeed a rating for each speaker as to its "" efficency rating"" that could make that turn out NOT to be true)

  • Ohhhhhhhhhh -- last info -- the crossovers were for a 3 way speaker design. I just used the low end part of it and never hooked up a midrange nor a tweeter to it. That is how I got the number 800/600 HZ downward.

    Simple huh? ! ? !?

  • The 12 inch woofer was actually a Yamaha woofer from a sv12 wedge cabinet. That one hurt the most to find. Just make sure whatever woofer you buy -- you look for a speaker cabinet 12 and not an automobile 12. Also check its specifications to ensure it is capable of playing a signal from 1000 hz downward. Otherwise it will blow up. Most 3 way speaker cabs have speakers capable of 1500 hz or lower. Most 2 way speaker cabs have speakers in them that are capable of 2500 HZ or lower.

  • The carpeted boxes were used and cheap. ( I think i paid 25 bucks for two of them)

I added bumper corners from parts express. Walmart pillow stuffing was 4 bucks maybe. The foam layer was from a carpet installation tear out and was free. I did have to buy the speaker covers new (Uggggggg). lol

If you are going to build subwoofers for 15 inch speakers -- try for a 1.5 cubic foot box as the minimum size. I wanted above all things for each component to be light to carry -- 30 pounds or less.

  • Remember that for line arrays filled with MIDRANGE speakers the hole in the EQ of the sound is from 600 or 300 HZ DOWNWARD that you need to fill in.

    Have fun!

hardest part was the 12 inch woofer -- crossover was used and rated for 400 watts at either 8 or 4 ohms (you have to set it with a jumper) -- you can get em at Parts Express new. I got the two of them from Ebay from a guy that changed his mind and decided he needed a higher power crossover in his design.
