Action-packed battle charge filmed on location outside of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. This cavalry charge recreates a battle victory by Chinggis Khan. It's pretty mad stuff.

I saw a documentary many years ago (produced in Japan or HK, I forget) about Mongolian horses. The secret lies on how the horses positioned their feet when running, which makes them less tired, and explains their high mobility to cover the vast area of land. The mobility also created an element of surprise for the unfamiliar foes.
Now I'd guess the Siberian wind, the Gobi heat, and the uncultivable land made these horses quite robust and hardy in difficult terrains.
