From March 1984. Those of you watching from South Carolina may remember the particular day when tornadoes hit Winnsboro, Newberry and Bennettsville. This is the newscast intro from the day after.

This intro has the names Joe Daggett, Ed Carter, Susan Aude (Fisher), and Joe Pinner. This anchor team was together at WIS for about 15 years. Pinner still works at WIS (on Fridays), and Susan recently retired. Joe Daggett retired in 1996, and Carter in 1998. This was the last intro used with the "Trumpet and chimes" ID, and the last to use the "Red/Blue 10" logo, which was used at most of the Cosmos stations (including WSFA) from the early 1970's through the mid 1980's. Enjoy!!

  • @talladegajunkie1439 actually, there is a video from WRAL about it on youtube. Search for the user AuburnTowers.

  • This was from March 28, 1984. I wish someone had some WRAL coverage of them from Raleigh, NC

  • I would seriously make that Cosmos ID sounder one of my ringtones. It so sexy in a strange way.

  • This was a very very bad storm near Bennettsville. There are still alot of old cars in my backyard from it.

  • does anyone have any footage of the shopping center damage in bennettsville , i remember seeing for years after the storm

  • Those were some extremely strong and rare tornadoes. The same tornado that raked Marlboro County and the low country kept getting stronger and stronger. It was a multiple vortex wedge tornado when it arrived in Red Springs, NC. Red Springs was essentially a miniature Xenia, Ohio when it was all over....almost everything was flattened. We went to Myrtle Beach that summer and I can still remember seeing where the tornado went through at Bennetsville. Pine trees were broken like match sticks!

  • I remember the tornado very good that day my family had to replace my grandparents bathroom sink. My father left the wrench at our house i went with him to get it. We lived 10 miles from newberry we both saw the funnel cloud at 4 pm the tornado warning was issued. The grandparents lived in joanna,sc we lived in kinards,sc when we were at our house the lights went out. Time we got back to joanna the news was on they said downtown was torn up. We went to see we couldn't get down some streets.

  • I remeber this storm . it was very catastrophic especially in the newberry and winnsboro area. will never forget it

  • I'm very confident that the logo was in existence throughout much of the 1970s on up late 1984 (which it was replaced by the famous "Big 10" logo and that had lasted until the early 1990s).

  • How long did they have that Blank White "1()" Model?
