It's a delight to see The Mikado done with such enthusiasm, good voices and music. The glimpse of YumYum's solo "Sun whose Rays" is enchanting. BUT it is as though the director wants to eliminate everything Victorian and graceful. It's wrong to make every song into a dance number and of course the flirting song "This is what I never do" is ruined.
Great orchestra (although a little more flexibility in the tempos would have been welcome), costumes, the make-up particularly, sets great, too. Katisha is wonderful [ is Pitti her understudy? ;-) ]. The choreography is also really good, except that possibly there's too much of it; sometimes it's actually ok to be still for a bit. What a great infrastructure you have here in Durham for G&S!
I thought that i this particular production the weomen were better than the men.
