Haha yeah I understand that. The rule makes sense, but more injuries happen, linsemen hit, players taken advantage of with the ref holding them etc., it's better to back off. I guess it's just to prevent guys from dropping their helmets before fights, especially when it's a level playing field that everyone has a visor in the OHL.
I was at this game, and I couldn't understand why the referees didn't jump in. It's not that I didn't want the fight to continue, but what happened to Branch's little helmet rule?

to answer your question, the linesmen have been consistent in not jumping in when the helmets come off, likely for fear of getting hit
