After reading a few of my rants and having to put up with me talking all the way through movies pointing out the plot holes, ect .... a bunch of my friends have suggested I try doing video reviews.
So here goes ... tonight I look at how badly Rankin Bass manged to mangle The Hobbit when making it into a animated movie for American television.

  • While you're at it, why don't you do Stanley Kubricks take on The Shining and A Clockwork Orange, they're both terrible adaptations of books and seeing you rip into them would be oh so much more satisfying.

Also, try and boost the audio levels on both the content you're reviewing and the footage of yourself, I have my surround sound system on full blast and I still can barely hear you.

If you need, I could reference you some cheap & kickass editing software.

  • @PsychopathUltimate This was the first video I edited using WMM and at the time I hadn't found the volume controls for the video clips - all my later videos are louder :)

I'll see about doing some more rants in the future

  • David Bowie never shows up in this and I do not believe you are sorry. I certainly would not be. And this is really the best of the animated adaptations, honestly, particularly for children.

  • @BlueCranberry David Bowie appears in the clip I used from Labyrinth - and yes it probably is the best out of the animated adaptations, but that's not saying much in it's favour

  • @MortiSofMidian He is splitting the book in half. It maybe too long to tell in one film. It looks like Frodo plays the role of the audience point of view and Old Bilbo is telling the story to him. I think Galaderial and Saurman are there to show a reason why Gandalf has to leave Bilbo and the dwarves before they meet with the spiders.

  • @biguy617 Yea I'm not quite sure what PJ is doing with making 2 films and padding them out with bits of other Tolkien stories - I hope he dosn't ruin it

  • The Hobbit cartoon was pretty bad, but it introduced me to Tolkien and his books, so it still holds a small place in my heart. :)

  • Looks like whoever designed the characters got ponies confused with mules

Also, I was drinking coffee when Gollum appeared, laughed and a load of coffee went down the wrong way and ended up all over me and the arm of the sofa

  • I actually think this movie is pretty good. It's really faithful to the book. The only two problems I have with it are Bilbo's appearance and the stupid soundtrack.

  • @MortiSofMidian the riddles might have made the movie boring to kids who have never read the book. The Peter Jackson movie may include all the riddles though. But I think it is being overdone which is typical for Peter. He has casted Frodo, Legolas, Galaderiel, Saurman, old Bilbo and other characters who don't play major roles or any role at all in the book.
