Richard Einhorn MD plays the first movement of Haydn's Sonata in E flat major, Hob XVI during preliminary round of Van Cliburn International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs, June 2007
Good, but a little-heavy-handed for Haydn. Sounds slightly over-pedaled, but perhaps there is too much reverberation in the room? At any rate it's sounds frankly overblown, despite the scrupulous attention paid to expressive details.
I'm sorry but this should evoke sunshine, laughter and energetic youthful merriment, but instead it sounds aggressive.
The chromaticism in the first movement, and the tonal scheme of the sonata as a whole, is remarkable. Check out Tovey's analysis if you can track it down and can read music.
This is amazing playing. I am thinking of learning this piece and wanted a good example of it to listen to while I followed along with the written music. I'm delighted!
Nice!!! I like the song although I am still practising..Well, I will take more time to practise this song if I finished grade 8 piano exam...(But I don't use this song for exam)
Very good

Ir wants to be frolicsome not fearsome.
I give it three-and- a-half stars.

Stunning rendition of Haydn's last and most devilishly fragmented sonata. Bravo!
