  • I don't know. They did a good job. The only direction I would give would get the chap playing Dave to cut down that pause on the $20,000 joke punchline by about 2 minutes.

  • That was deliberately edited in. The real pause was only about 5 seconds

  • Then that's bad editing.

  • Only if you don't think it's funny, which is your prerogative, but it doesn't make it bad editing. It's an artistic choice, one that some people like. Can't cater to everyone

  • it's ok but why not leave it "pounds"?

  • Because it said bucks in the script we were given

  • @TheMikeyReilly It's still way better than the yanks effort lol

  • Sheffield been relocated to Australia has it? :P

  • ... nope, can't say the accents are really working for me. Also, ukulazy, have to disagree with you I'm afraid, in terms of no one outside of Yorkshire really understanding. We're based in Nottingham, so not that far away from you and we definitely had a bad time of it when all the coal mines were systematically closed down.

  • i was just replying to the fact that you said it being set in nothern england wasnt important..

  • It would make more sense to suggest that the film is not about the steel industry (coal mining was equally important) or Sheffield (many Northern towns, and other countries, were affected), but the adversity suffered by working class citizens, their perochial attitudes, and the ways in which they, like everybody else, find happiness, success and meaning in life.

  • You're entitled to read into the film as you like, but I disagree. Just because it won a German award doesn't mean you can assume that the film aimed to encompass every country that was experiencing that kind of decline.

People have a tendency to overgeneralise such themes so they can relate to them more...

  • Shame about the accents !! hahahahaa Terrible aussie/american/not british mix lol.

  • I know what the film was about. I haven't seen the stage play and I'm not interested in seeing it. The above clip is from the film script anyway so what's your point?

  • I'm only too well aware of subject of the film, but it also refelcted global issues at the time, the fact that many countries were suffering from the loss of heavy industry as it moved out west. Sheffield was a vehicle for that issue. And alright, you may think it was specific to Sheffield because of some native humour perhps. If so then why did it win best foreign film at the German Film Awards? And less of the prick thank you. I'm trying to have an honest debate here.

  • that's one seriously cringe inducing video i must say
