  • Hi Brian, can you please tell me the brand and model of machine you are using?

    Thank you!

  • @kindtokids1 It's a Dressmaker which is a generic name for the most part. Basically it's a Japanese made machine from the 1950s...

  • Hi Brian, thank you for this tutorial. I have a question: How do you get your machine to NOT skip stitches??? I have been trying for a couple of months to sew stretchy fabrics on a machine that looks very much like yours (mine is 30+ years old).

I have tried stretch needles, playing with tensions and what not. Sometimes it starts fine but then I get the ONE skipped stitch that ruins the whole garment. ARGH!

    Thanks again!

  • @Soicansew Hey there... a fresh stretch or ball point needle is the key for me. However some stretch fabrics are still rather tricky. If you've done everything else try switching thread? I find different thread will respond differently and worth a try switching it up!

  • Hi. I love your video. Can you tell me what kind of stitch that is? I think its a zig zag, but when I try to do that on my machine it looks nothing like yours. I have a Europro (I would love a singer:-)lol

  • Hey there! Yes it's just a standard one-step zigzag. You don't want to use the multiple step zigzag for this technique.

  • I'm still trying to figure out why my bobbin thread is a looping mess. I've tried yellow band needles (which are made for knits, aren't they?), no band needles and I'm moving to the red band needle next. But thanks for the demo. On a side note, I love that you were listening to Lisa Loeb while working. If you like her music, try my daughter's stuff. Google Allison Weiss and "Fingers Crossed" to see her latest video. One of my favorites is "The End".

  • im a college student taking my first sewing class and i really enjoyed your vid :D my main goal is to learn how to sew swimwear, so thank you!

  • Thanks for answering Brian, I just saw it now. My problem was solved when I came back home to Peru and was reunited with my 18 y/o Pfaff 919-1. That machine can sew anything with any kind of needle, really amazing. The one I was using before is a borrowed "American Beauty" that is probably 30+ years old so I won't even try to sew stretchy fabrics with it again. I will make a vid and publish it.

I have decided to take my Pfaff with me everywhere I go now.

  • Great video! I can see everything clearly, the explanation is detailed, nicely paced. Would enjoy seeing more!!

  • thank you so much!! this was so helpful! honestly thank you so much for making this video!
