warning, extreme exposure to Art Blakey's buzz roll might cause the following symptoms: loss of hearing capability (Blakey's fans know about this), lack of bone marrow, extreme feeling of being a sucky drummer, loss of the ability to listen to non-jazz messengers jazz, extreme euphoria, spandex-phobia, changes in drumming style to hope to achieve a perfect buzz roll, a non-ceasant buzz ring in your ears, lack of the ability to listen to shitty music, jazz adiction, inscrutable feeling of joy...

lead the beat. put the fills in front of the downbeat instead of after them. drop 'bombs' like you hear blakey and roach do... rimshotte the snare for accents... build a seamless wall or thunderous rolling drums.

I was told by my jazz band conductor to make some sort of solo Art Blakey style. How.

And he didn't even break a sweat. Goddam I love Blakey, and Free For All is one of the best jazz albums ever.

Yeah, Buddy's buzz roll was superb.
Never heard anyone do it any better.
Plus, Buddy played with his snare wires very tight against the bottom head.
MUCH harder to buzz than with loose wires, like Art had.
Art was great, but Buddy was The Master ~
