Fallacies:

1. Human Rights abuse do not prove that there is no democracy because if it is so then India, US, Britain, and many other democratic countries wont be called democratic.

2. Democracy means rule by the people. Why does this professor have a problem when people have decided to give a certain share of power to Jurists. Jurist is elected.

Love G.A. Montazeri, but this professor is misinterpreting and on a very sensitve time-space dimensions.

Montazeri was also Khomeini's successor until Rafsanjani and Khomeini's son changed Khomeini's testament and put one of their friends, Khamenei, the current supreme leader, in place because they wanted to change the constitution and transfer the supreme leader's power to a new organ called Discernment Council which is the real decision maker in Iran (not the supreme leader, nor the president who has no power). They knew Montazeri would never do that.

As you were introducing Montazeri's background, you forgot to mention many of his important achievements such as he masterminded the setting of fire to a movie theatre in Abadan that killed 400 men, women and children in order to accuse the Shah and pursuade the oil workers (based in that region) to join the so-called "revolution" and a strike movement that will lead to overthrow of the Shah's regime. No wonder he could not sleep at night (if such a statement is true of course) ......
