A Boeing-developed gas engine was tested on a Kenworth truck in 1950.Kenworth Motor Truck Corporation units, powered by the new Boeing Airplane Company 175-horsepower gas turbine and a diesel power plant of similar rating are disclosed in this just-released Youtube movie. The new Boeing gas turbine, which weighs only 200 pounds, has been undergoing road test near Seattle in the ten-ton truck for the past month. As installed experimentally, the Boeing turbine occupies only 13 percent of the space normally taken up by a conventional gasoline or diesel engine of equal power. The new engine operated on the same principle as the ship steam turbine and will burn kerosene, diesel oil or gasoline." Check out album @ http://www.youtube.com/user/swishyhasbeen?feature=chclk#g/u

  • I bet the fuel milage was atrocious, While I'm here love the music that comes from under the hood of your truck.

  • Thanks for this. I am a big fan of the Gas-turbine engine.

  • I read an article on this and the braking was so good with the turbine that your normal foundation brakes were hardly used at all. Fuel consumption was a big no-no however. Ford tried a COE with a gas turbine as well. I bet the KW got a few looks going up the road..

  • Great visibility!! I have found your channel n wanna say thanks. I am A truck nut and Kenworth specifically and really like to see the Aussie stuff you post. The screamin SAR ya roll is neat. I am A HUGE fan of any truck that WORKS!!! Not so into the "large car" highway queens so your posts of the ol stuff is great! Greetings from Northern California n keep the rubber side down Swish.
