The Case
When Harpreet Kaur came to MindHeal Homoepathy, she wasn't her usual self. Her face was awfully swollen; her left eyelid was so badly swollen, it could barely open; and she suffered crushing migraines.

This 48-year-old school teacher said her face began to swell two years ago, when she underwent menopause. Her other symptoms, which included hypertension and sleeplessness, also intensified at the time.

Assessment
Harpreet had undergone several diagnostic tests over the years but they had all come back negative. There seemed no apparent reason for the swelling on her face. Yet she harboured a deep-seated fear of developing cancer, despite no family history of the disease and no signs or symptoms in herself. She said it was because her facial swelling had persisted for so long.

Despite her fears -- she only revealed her dread of cancer -- Harpreet said she had no real worries. She connected her symptoms to menopause and had consulted with many allopathic doctors, who were baffled by her case. As a last resort, one of these allopathic specialists had recommended steroid-based medication. These drugs had apparently helped initially but later proved ineffective.

She was a calm and cool person and nothing really ruffled her. Oddly enough, this was the key to her facial oedema -- regardless of what they were, she habitually suppressed her feelings. Why, by her own admission, even her mother's death had not consciously impacted her even though she was very close to her mother and missed her a lot. She said, "I cannot express it in words." When quizzed about what troubled her, Harpreet said preferred not to discuss her problems.

This pattern of repeated suppression and denial had taken a toll on Harpreet's health. The natural fallout was migraine and hypertension. So how did the oedema develop? Harpreet did share another nugget: she was a regular at a religious group, which used chanting and singing to 'calm the mind'.

Harpreet said these sessions had made her 'calmer and more controlled', just what she didn't need! Not in a way that encouraged her to suppress her feelings further, at least.

Imagine the baggage Harpreet had been carrying! Finally, when her system could not adapt to the suppression any more, it began to give way -- the hypertension and migraine weren't enough to 'absorb' this dysfunctional way of reacting to the world, so the oedema showed up.

Treatment
Harpreet's symptoms began to clear up soon after my treatment began. The swelling on her face subsided considerably within a couple of months; her appetite improved and she began to sleep better.

The most notable symptom that showed up was a raging rash. I told her not to worry, it was a good sign! It was a clear sign that the homeopathic remedy I had prescribed was working. As the disease process reverses, the destructive processes that had long set in began to reverse. Harpreet's rash was a sign that her body had returned to the first stage of disease (before even that vanished), which is the inflammatory response.

With this catharsis and venting of symptoms, Harpreet was well on the road to recovery. And in just 4 months, 90 per cent of her symptoms had subsided. Best of all, her face returned to normal and Harpreet embarked on a new journey -- she began to 'feel' and was enjoying it!
