Chris Mason is one of the most dynamic persons that I have ever met. Born in England, he was taken to live in a small Greek village at 8 years of age, and quickly learn the Greek alphabet and language. At 18 Chris relocated to Munich, Germany, learnt German and set up a freight company. After a brief spell in Bosnia he moved to the US and then Canada, where he suffered an injury, T7, T8 Paraplegic, resulting in permanent wheelchair use. The Canadian government in their kindness deported him to the UK, although he was more Canadian than British. None the less, what one would normally term disability has empowered Chris. Despite the stature of the largest pro rugby player - Chris flies around home and country as if T7 and T8 injuries or being a paraplegic is a mere nuisance.
Many of us work out in the Gym, but Chris presses his own weight constantly. Chris required a pressure relieving alternating air mattress that would help prevent pressure ulcers (bed sores) but would enable him to live at home independently. The Squirrel Diamond is a pressure relieving mattress otherwise known as an alternating air mattress that is termed high and very managed risk in terms of preventing pressure ulcers. It is unique in that it uses 58 alternating air cells and is therefore incredibly stable for wheelchair transfer. This video is not a training video and we stress that those that use wheelchairs for transfer or bed boards should seek professional training from an (OT) occupational therapist, physiotherapist or other professional. This video should however be used to motivate and inspire anyone that thinks a lump of wood for wheelchair transfer to airflow or dynamic mattresses is a silly idea.
