Retro Sonic 808 Overdrive TS-808

This pedal is built from scratch, not a modded version of somebody else's pedal. The Eight O Eight features the same JRC4558D op-amp as the original TS-808, which is known for a tube like overdrive while retaining your guitar's natural tone. In fact, the chip is socketed so you can experiment with different op amps as well. This pedal will get those classic mid-bumped SRV tones or singing rock leads without adding undue compression. You can also use it as a clean boost for sparkling lightly overdriven sounds. Inside the pedal, you can adjust the amount of low end with a trim pot, going from vintage Tubescreamer to a fatter, more modern sound. All of Retro Sonic pedals feature true bypass as well as the highest quality caps and metal film resistors. This is one of the most transparent sounding OD pedals I have ever heard! I would like to know if there is a pedal that can retain the "open, singing" characteristics of an amp at higher volumes, when having to play at lower volumes. I have a 50 watt Carvin Bel Air 212 that has a very open "vintage" tone that loves volume more than my neighbors do. I also would like to jam along with the stereo without having to "crank" it, but I don't do it enough to justify buying a smaller amp. Thank you.

It's hard to say, especially since these are subjective terms. However, this and most Tubescreamers are designed to give you a cranked amp sound at lower volumes. Remember that a lot of that "Open" sound comes from your speakers pushing the air at higher volumes and your power tubes driving as well. This is really hard to recreate entirely with one pedal. So, I've been holding out on buying an OD pedal for the past month for a lack of being able to decide. I had been scoping ebay for a purple plexi, and even considered the Amp 50. This is totally right where I need an OD pedal to be...overdriven, but with a creamy sounding edge, and not a tone sucker/killer. Thanks Andy!

There are a couple pedals to look into. One being the English Muff'n made by Electro Harmonix. That gives you a great Marshall plexi tone and is tube driven. there is also the seymour duncan twin tube which is also tube driven and has a rhythm and lead channel with individual dials for each.

SRV!!! My buddy just built me a TS-808 clone, to a T. Such a well rounded tone. My 808 will stay on my board for life. I dig how Retro Sonic payed homage with the green lettering.
