Ok.. Can you send me the interview when he said that? I wanna see if you're not bullshitting me because man, I really haven't heard him said that ever even though I've been a fan for 20 years and I have seen almost all of his interviews.
Saw Nirvana live in 1991, they were pretty shambolic. Pixies though I've never seen a bad gig since my first time in 1990 (six or so times now across all those years).
Perhaps just an off day for Nirvana? But Pixies' albums still remain in my playlist always, unlike Nirvana. I think they were cut from a far higher grade cloth myself.
what pixies did in rock history is amazing.. if you compare it to the ramones: ramones were the fathers of modern punk, but if you listen to their songs now: they suck, there are a lot of better songs...
Pixies were the fathers of modern grunge, garage,... but their songs are still great, they didn't only create the genre, they also showed : "this is how you do it, boys and girls"
@SuFFeRSuM: In Jan 1994 Interview in Rolling Stone, Cobain said about Nevermind: "I was basically trying to rip off the Pixies. I have to admit it. When I heard the Pixies for the first time, I connected with that band so heavily that I should have been in that band— or at least a Pixies cover band. We used their sense of dynamics, being soft and quiet and then loud and hard."
SuFFerSuM! He did say that. Look for the enterview and you will see that I'm not bulshitting you "I was just trying to rip off the Pixies" - Curt Kobain.
thats because Kobain really liked and admired the Pixies not because he was trying to be exactly like them im just saying because context is important

Anyways, agree that both bands deserve respect.
And Kurt said someone things. He also said that he doesn't need to be taken literally all the time. especially in interviews.
