She's no more than a day old and testing everything in the herd just in case it's mom's teat. While she fumbles around the rest of the herd, although seemingly just grazing, they constantly surround her protecting her. She's so new even her ears are still pink.

  • Such a beautiful and precious baby! I love how protective it's family is. Such gentle and intelligent creatures.

  • I live in Memphis, Tennessee. Our zoo has three female African elephants, one of which just yesterday gave birth. The sad thing is that the mother accidentally gored the calf this morning. The zoo staff rushed the calf to the zoo hospital, but the injuries were too severe and an hour after the accident, the calf died. Please keep the Memphis Zoo staff in your thoughts and prayers.

  • The calf is so cute. It looks so small compared the adults, but really an elephant calf weighs a few hundred pounds, they can hardly be described as "cute little" animals.

  • What a beauty!

  • So so cute - lovely video

  • She's so cute!
