I have a massive fear of food borne illness and I also admit how irrational it is. No one has known about this until a month ago, cos I never realized how obsessive Id become. Ive been hospitalised for not eating properly. Several times. So I understand it, it's hard to get your head around that it is OK. Ive now been labelled as a phobic anorexic...and getting help for it.
Hope you can find something to get you through it!

My phobia is mirrors
I WILL FREAK OUT IF A MIRROR IS NEXT TO ME BEHIND ME OR IN FRONT OF ME
if it's there long enough I might scream
If I'm tied to a mirror I would close my eyes

Oh gosh, I understand the food-y hands thing. I can't stand when anyone eats with all their fingers and then doesn't wash them right after with soap. It's something about the greasiness that bothers me and it's so hard to fully clean. I get freaked out if i touch objects that someone who's been eating oily things has touched like fridge doors, doorknobs, taps, utensils or especially glasses of water/drink. Even further, I can't use a cup/glass unless it's near spotless and absolutely odourless.

have you had food aversion since you were a baby? my 2 year old nephew is on a feeding tube. i am concerned about his future. if he turns out anything like you when he grows up, i will have some hope for him. thanks for posting. fascinating and candid.

ive always been very fussy and later on as a child of maybe 7 or so it became distain and at around 15/16 years old- fear.
I can only hope that your nephew can learn to eat solid foods, it takes small steps and pehaps a reward system?. I hope i'm not being too forward in asking if your nephew has any learning difficulties as it may go hand-in-hand with a phobia or not not being able to eat foods?
Thankyou for the compliments and glad you found it interesting, after all that is why it's on here.

yes, he does. he was a micro-premie and shows signs of autism. autism and food aversion often goes hand in hand. the only thing he is able to eat and on rare occasion, is yogurt. i am hoping he doesn't have a phobia of the texture of the food. maybe he should try harder textured food - not easy because his swallowing muscles are weak. thanks for responding, btw. have you tried different forms of cognitive or hypnotherapy?

i havent tried any sort of therapy for it. i havent seen the need to until recently to be honest, maybe i should when my life is a little less busy.
perhaps a reward for when he eats the yoghurt and then move it onto yoghurt with pieces of strawberry or another fruit in it or even giving him a food that he can lick or suck on to get used to texture and taste.
im not an expert, its just advice and lack the 'balls' to motivate myself to do it but maybe him being so young he can be spurred on.
