Pole vaulting, swimming and gymnastics are among the usual sports at play during the summer Olympic games, and an army of pole dancers are leading the charge to get their activity added to the lineup.
@assiracrose Have you ever even BEEN to a respectable, clean strip club? You clearly don't know what you're talking about if you think it's "gyrating in front of strange men for $." There's much more to it than that. And the version of "pole fitness" that is taught now in studios came from exotic dance, which is just as much of a legitimate art form as this technical business. Just because it's sexual doesn't mean it's not art, and to think that the two are mutually excl. is backward thinking.
So to end this message, I say this. Know YOUR history and don't get pissed that pole dancing for fitness is slowly becoming more and more recognized as a reputable form of exercise and a beautiful art form. There is a reason why there are no 'exotic dance championships'. They are not the same thing.
@kumasdaisy Exotic dance. AKA gyrating in front of strange men for $. For your information, pole dancing did NOT originate in strip clubs. That's a fact. Its roots originated some hundred years ago in Chinese Pole and Mallakhamb (Indian Pole). It only became more known in the US in the 1920's in circus acts,& was only until the late 80's that pole dancing became involved with strip clubs. So you are wrong. Search Jenyne Butterfly, a pole dancing champ who is NOT robotic but a beautiful dancer.
@neecierules What is with you stuck-up "pole fitness" people and your need to distance yourselves from exotic dance? It is EXTREMELY insulting that you think of yourselves as "better" than ACTUAL exotic dancers who may actually know a lot more about dance than you do. Our pole dance looks organic and beautiful, not robotic and choreographed. Don't be pissed because your sport is rooted in the adult industry (that IS where it came from - know your history). You people are classist snobs.
Dude, you need to upgrade your view on things. Type "Pole dancing" into Google and see what you really get nowadays: pole dancing clips for beginners how to.., pole dance-Wikipedia, Get Pole Dance Accepted into the Olympics Petition, Fun, Fitness, Classes, Lessons, Practice- right there on the first page.
@nikemmmur84 thanks for the sweet comment! Pol'nastics & OR POLE AEROBICS as I like to call it.....is coming up & its coming up fast! I have so many women in my pole fitness classes that have never even stepped FOOT into a strip club & most of them have more advanced tricks then the average "dancer" as well! THANKS FOR STICKING UP FOR US! If your in my area & would like to try out a pole fitness class plz call us at 615-566-6307 thanks Denise w/ VERTICAL EXPRESSIONS
The only reason these dancers need to show so much skin is because they need it to stick to the pole and that is all. If everybody tried pole dancing they would understand how physically hard it is...I believe that some of these dancers deserve the olympics more than some of the olympians out there. Well done girls...keep it up and hopefully one day we will se you at the olympic games, and with the respect you deserve. xox
