After so many recent mass shootings, we decided to travel to Florida to see why so many Americans are stockpiling firearms.
--
Weeks before the almost unfathomable mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, VICE editor-in-chief Rocco Castoro visited Florida to dive headfirst into its byzantine firearms laws and discover why his home state was the first in the nation to issue over one million concealed weapons permits. Through interviews and time on the range with veterans, law enforcement officials, and gun-store owners, VICE digs deep into the gun debate and uncovers many troubling revelations along the way. Oh, we also use a Craigslist-like site to arrange for the purchase of a handgun at 10 PM in the parking lot of a big-box hardware store. And it's all 100-percent legal. Welcome to Florida.

What your saying isn't true. At least get your facts right before you post bullshit on a bigoted comment section.

They used guns to round up those people... I was at Tuol Sleng last year. Have you been to Vietnam or Cambodia lately? It is much safer than the US; you wouldn't need to worry about getting shot randomly. You cannot compare the attitude of most Asians to the general arrogance and rudeness of most westerners, especially concerning guns.

Actually you are wrong, do your research. Suicides are MUCH more likely to occur in households with guns. This attitude that has surfaced of "if people are going to commit said act, they will do it anyway" this is a dangerous logical fallacy. Why do we even have laws then, if people are just going to break them?

Here's a fun number, do you know how many people are in the US? 313.9 million (2012). Now do you know how many people are in Vietnam? 87.84 million.

    MORE NUMBERS

Do you know how big the US is? 3.794 million sq miles, do you know how big Vietnam is? 128,066 sq miles, that means Vietnam is smaller than Montana. And do you *honestly* believe crime is as well reported in Vietnam as it is in the US? You're pretty delusional if you do.

Exactly. In fact, despite New Orleans having the highest murder rate in the country and after living there for 19 years, I can say that I have never seen anyone get shot, never seen a shooting. Heard bullets whizzing through the air once though. In 19 years in the most violent city in the country... but because I didn't venture into the projects, the chances of seeing it were still slim. The country isn't boiling over in violence, the inner cities are.

Exactly! Now compare that to the rest of the state without that portion of the population included. The rate drops dramatically which proves that it's small, violent, usually democrat controlled areas that ruin it for everyone else. When Louisiana was pushing to get the stronger 2nd amendment passed, the police chief from New Orleans fought against it stating that we don't know how to fight gun crime when his city is the only one with a severe gun crime problem.

    In the US:

    Gun homicide rate 3.6/100k

Forcible rape 26.8/100k (Only 0.2% chance of getting raped this year)

    Robbery 113/100k

    Aggravated Assault 241/100k

The winner for most violent metropolitain statistical area is......

Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach, with a total of 596.7 violent crimes per 100,000 people

This means 1 in 200 people here fell victim to a violent crime in 2011

1 in 10 people will fall victim over a 20 year period

    1 in 5 if u live to 40 years!
