  • Manafon will likely have elements parallel to Blemish. I have listened to many of these musicians for years (bassist/cellist Marcio Mattos was also a part of the Manafon sessions), and can't wait to hear what David has done with the conceptual parts that he had the musicians play.

I am really looking forward to this recording and hope that you other Sylvian fans can warm up to some of the great British musicians on this disc who have elevated the art of improvised music in the past 30 years.

  • Marcio Mattos is one of the greatest free improvisation's cellists (more near jazz when he's playing bass, I think). Well, he worked with Derek Bailey's Company too and I'm curious to listen to The Rabbit Skinner where he play with my wonderful Fennesz.

Blemish is a masterpiece and I'm sure Manafon will be another opportunity to explore the soul's abyss and to amplify thoughts...mr. Sylvian is looking for the perfect balance between sound and silence in the direction and in the way I like

  • Hi Freccia,

  • good album

  • WOW!!!!

  • Spero che questo disco possa uscire in Italia presto...

I hope this CD to go to Italy soon ...

  • Thanks for posting the details about each piece! Now I see how he has integrated the core musicians from Polwechsel (from Vienna) and Japanese musicians I was not aware were on the session.

By exposing listeners to these musicians, David's daring experiment will only pay dividends. The music will certainly not be lyrical in the normally accepted sense, but will certainly pose new ways of listening to "songs". This should make Scott Walker's The Drift seem tame in comparison!

  • So true David Sylvain has made his mark in the world of music and thinking outside the box.

  • ok - full track listing for Manafon for those who aren't aware : small metal Gods the rabbit skinner random acts of senseless violence the greatest living englishman 125 spheres snow white in appalachia emily dickinson the department of dead letters manafon I have to say almost none of them sound like a name normally given to a DS song ! It's getting more interesting..........
  • Well, Blemish is a total masterpiece. Fundamentally it's so real it's also unlistenable for fun--it's the sort of stuff you need sometimes, know always (if you've been in that situation), and that one day might just about save your life when everything's gone utterly wrong and you need someone to explain exactly how you feel, because you can't. I think that's important. And I'm pretty sure that Manafon is going to be important in a different way too :)

  • I wonder what the issues are that are beyond Samadhi Sound's control...since it is David's label after all.

    *sigh*

I'm sure it will wonderful and worth the wait. I agree with peacefulbliss, Blemish is difficult to listen to. When you've lived in that heart space and you've come through the other side, maybe a little wiser, maybe a little scarred, it's very difficult to hear that kind of pain from someone else...My heart breaks to hear that album.
