If you are a black woman with an advanced degree, there's a good chance you've never been married.

New research from Yale University suggests that highly educated black women are twice as likely to have never been married by the age of 45 as white women with similar education.

Hannah Bruckner, who leads the Center for Research on Inequalities and the Life Course at Yale University, says the disparity can be partly explained by a difference in dating preferences between some black men and women.

"Black men are more likely to marry outside of their race, and black women are more likely to marry outside of their education," she says.

Bruckner says that is compounded by tough competition for a smaller pool of highly educated black men.

  • I must disagree with those that say advanced degrees aren't attractive. I am currently working on my MBA in Business and Finance and can honestly say I would much prefer a woman who is highly educated and successful. To me, race doesn't matter! I'm white and I'd love to date a highly educated sexy black lady. The more feminine the better... LOL

  • @typhon3808 Amen.

  • Plain and simple if a woman can't catch a man with the bait she has she must use different bait. Meaning man are not attracted to advance degrees. Man are attracted to the femininity of a woman. Ironically these same Black women with advance degree that claim they can't find a compliment among Black men, end up with White men because of their femininity and not their advanced degrees. So what this really means is these women really didn't want to be with a Black man in the first place.

  • @unpolitical Or if they do want Black Man they want to CHANGE them into something they are not!

  • Half of marriages end in divorce, is not getting married really that terrible.

  • @Pimptacular69 I don't think so but a lot of people do.

  • Most have degrees in liberal arts / social sciences and are technical dunces.

  • @gummoboy333 Pretty stupid solution

  • You jamming some Jim Hendrix? Cool!!!

  • Im a white guy and I REALLY like black women, and I think more of them should date white guys! ; )

  • @unpolitical Amen, we totally and respectfully agree. I pray you have much success in your efforts to positively affect those of African descent. Peace.

  • @AchreousD You commented by explaining why I shouldn't use Black to describe our people and I disagreed. I gave reasons why I disagreed. We differ on this subject. I have no problem with that and can respectfully and civilly disagree. At the end of the day we both want what is best for our people and our hearts are in the right place. Going forward we should build on that. We can not afford to be tripped up by words. No hard feeling brother..Peace.

  • @AchreousD Who defines the TRUE meaning of a word? As long as man has sight and language he has had an understanding of the color black. To some men black has negative connotation. I'm not one of those man and don't adhere to that which is universal. Black is a universal color (or absence of color) found throughout the universe. Therefore black invokes different symbolic means to different people therefore universally it only a color. Any other meaning is purely based upon perspective.

  • @AchreousD Negro and Nigger are not word I identify myself with but the unfortunate reality is after we were systematically stripped of our true identity that is what we were forced to became. If we are controlled by our enemies words then we are truly defeated. This is why I say I take no take no part in validating my enemies perception of me and my people.
