  • If I'm not mistaken, BTW, "Londubh" is Irish for Blackbird," at least I hope so, since it's what my license plate says (on my black car).

  • @tquinn554 that's correct!

  • Beautiful instrument. What song is this being played at the beginning? Or is it just a little something made up on the spot to demonstrate the instrument? Lovely.

  • @winonamajick "John of the Glenn" I think...

  • Lon Dubh is pronounced "lawn dew".

  • @TheWeeWhistler Thanks for chiming in. Though, (and correct me if I'm wrong) as I understand "u" is pronounced similar to "oo" in took and the bh makes the "v" sound. This is how I also remember it pronounced by Pat.

  • @threejs11 How much are these whistles? I can't seem to find them anywhere.

  • When i first listened to this video, I was so impressed that I ordered a Londubh myself. Although my playing is far from as good as Blayne's, it's a beautiful whistle with a beautiful sound. Thanks Blayne

  • @whistleanddrum this is usually correct. but gaelic is a funny language, so actually it is "lawn dew" by some rules in the language. the bh making a v sound changed depending on where in the word it is(correct me if im wrong) so in this case, it becomes lenited(or silent) so it ends up sounding like "dew"... thats my take. im not an expert, but thats my 2 cents

  • Thanks Blayne, I've been hoping for quite awhile to hear a demo of one these.

It sounds really nice, and I love the it maintains its volume between octaves. At times my Oz can give me a bit of trouble in that regard, especially on the upper A and B...ouch, but muting it with a little piece of blu-tack takes care of that pretty well. However, now that I've heard a Lon Dubh's, I think I might have to start savin' up my pennies again.
