Wangari Maathai, the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Kenyan environmentalist, and founder of the Green Belt Movement (www.greenbeltmovement.org), talks about the mottainai campaign in Kenya and elsewhere. "Mottainai" is a Japanese term that means, in effect, "reduce, reuse, recycle." Prof. Maathai first came across it during a visit to Japan in 2005. The campaign has centered in Kenya on the reduction and reuse of thin plastic bags. Recorded outside in April 2009 at Calistoga Ranch, Napa, California.
