1971 version NOT at all exactly like the book, way off on that point... but it's great as is, just not so much like the book.

It's a filmed version of the one-man play "Johnny Got His Gun", based on Dalton Trumbo's novel. It's about an American soldier in WWI who is hit by a mortar shell and loses his limbs, eyes, ears and mouth, but can still think, rendering him a prisoner in his own body.
