  • She is phenomenal. The accent is actually pitch perfect. People who make comparisons between the Australian accent and the new Zealand accent are wasting their time because they are very similar. I'm Australian, and I recognise this.

Watching this, even this short little clip, I forgot that I was watching Meryl Streep. I was watching Lindy Chamberlain.

  • no its not..aussie accent is one of the hardest to pull off and she did a great job.

  • @jewelrox But for an Aussie to think it a convincing accent is bewildering to me, How old are you, and from which part of Oz do u actually hail? I'm not having a go, I am truly interested.

  • @jewelrox Issues.lol..I'm an Aussie, watched the drama unfold,.and have an opinion as to Chamberlain's guilt ,based on the size of her baby as compared to mine who was the same age at the time, and the lack of capacity of a dingo to carry the head in its mouth as SHE claimed. The point is that Streep's portrayal, make up, wig, mostly accent was almost insulting to Australians, almost a parody! I love Streep's work, but this was her worst. It's odd the U.S folk think it sounds good !

  • @bbschef1 the fact that you have issues is not my problem so try not to share them with me. ok?!

  • @hebneh Streep sounded Kiwi if anything. Aussies from the cities have a more well spoken accent but people from the bush have the broader sound. Hugh Jackman has the typical Aussie accent , he doesn't put a plum in his mouth like Nicky Kidman does when she's in the U.S

  • @jewelrox I'm Aussie , the same age as The Murdering Bitch and my son was the same age as Azaria, I watched the murderer on T.V from start to end and Streep did a hideous job at an Aussie accent!

  • I find it interesting how many Australians comment on this accent as being typical of a certain time period - has Australian speech changed that much, and so noticeably, in recent decades?

General American speech really couldn't be analyzed that way...although, certainly, vocabularies change, and slang especially becomes dated.

  • Meryl Streep's an amazing actress.

  • Judge for youself, the accent is accurate:
