Captive Wildlife Rules Need Your Voice

Even if you are not from Florida, this could make a big difference where you live because Florida currently produces more big cats than any other state. These cats are hauled all over the country, and sometimes even to foreign countries where people are not as concerned with protecting animals. When the cats cats can no longer be used to support their owners they are often dumped along the way; sometimes into the hands of unwitting exotic pet owners, sometimes they are served up in restaurants and sometimes they are dumped into the wild with no survival skills. Ending the trafficking of exotic cats in Florida will greatly reduce the number of these cats who end up suffering in all parts of the world.

The comment period on these proposed rules closes 5PM on Jan 1, 2009, but a meeting is being held on them Sept. 17, 2008, so be sure to mail or email your comments before then if you want to be a part of the cure. Some people keep saying that BCR should release them into the wild but how are those cats suppose to survive in the wild. I assume most of those cats have never haunted a real prey so they are not use to strategies they would use to hunt while some have been declawed by the previous owners. Some are not even use to their other species around them and so many things like that so i think they are better of in enclosure.

You're right, there are hardly any programs that release captive bred big cats, the thing we need to concentrate on is habitat preservation, if we cannot do this it's pointless to release more cats into the wild. Our cats couldn't be released anyway, for many of them we do not know their background, most of our tigers for example or hybrids between to sub species, they would also be a problem as they associate people with food etc..

thank you for giving these animals a better life, i think every animal should have a good life like those cats, that poor tiger that had a hurt paw and the over crowded cage makes me want to cry, i wish i could help animals like what your doing and giving them a better life
